Rolls-Royce opens megafacility in Singapore: plant to produce engines for aeronautics

Rolls-Royce has opened its largest manufacturing plant in Asia in Singapore to capitalize on the growth of the aviation business in the region.

The Rolls-Royce Selectar Campus, the group communicated, will be the only site, outside the Derby factory (in Great Britain), to assemble, test and produce Trent 900 and Trent 1000 engines. The former is used in the superjumbo Airbus A380, while the 1000 is destined for the latest models of the Boeing Dreamliner series. “This part of the world – commented Simon Robertson, president of Rolls-Royce, on the eve of the Singapore Airshow – has played a key role in doubling our group's turnover over the last ten years. And the continued demand from the rapidly growing Asian economies gives us hope for a new doubling in the next decade”. Lee Hsien Loong, prime minister of Singapore, underlined the importance of the Rolls-Royce site, covering 154 thousand square meters, for the economy of the city-state. "It is the largest aerospace investment ever made in Singapore with a value of 700 million Singapore dollars (equivalent to 422 million euros)," commented Loong.
