“Consob filed a complaint in February 2013 against Mps for having provided untruthful or at least omissive information regarding the financing of the Antonveneta operation and the alleged transaction in government bonds carried out by Mps with Nomura”. This was supported by Codacons, explaining in a press release that “the facts disputed in the complaint presented by Consob refer, inter alia, to information relating to the current management of the chairman Alessandro Profumo and the managing director Fabrizio Viola.
Consob - continues the note from Codacons - has asked the Public Prosecutor's Office to open an investigation against Mps for impeding supervision. In the second document, which has also remained secret until today, it emerges that Consob, already in September 2012, had fully recognized that the transaction performed by MPS with Nomura could hide a credit default swap.
"The Consob documents - insists the consumer association - confirm what Codacons has always asserted and has also asked to verify, regarding the responsibilities of the current Mps top management cited for fraud against the state and misappropriation of state aid and the supervisory authorities (Consob and Banca d'Italia) for failure to control”.
Codacons asks the Letta Government and the Minister of Economy Fabrizio Saccomanni to promptly inform the European Commission and to include in the Restructuring Plan, the replacement of the current directors.
Despite the bad weather, MPS shares gained more than half a percentage point (0,52%) in the early afternoon.
