Huawei, the new foldable smartphone costs 2.600 euros

Huawei is not satisfied with the 5G battle. The Chinese tech giant, which is giving the United States a hard time having taken a large advantage in building and selling the infrastructure that enables artificial intelligence and that is the economy of the future (to the point that Washington is funding European competitors such as Nokia to prevent Huawei from breaking into the western market more than it already is doing), also wants to participate in the challenge of the latest generation smartphones. For this reason, since participation in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona was skipped due to the coronavirus, Huawei still took care to present the latest family jewel (with a live web broadcast): the Mate Xs, a very high-end smartphone, which will go on the market in March for the "modest" sum – in Italy – of 2.599 euros, or about 1.000 euros more than the similar product presented a few weeks ago by Samsung, the Galaxy Z-Flip.

What do these new mobile phones have in common and what is extraordinary? They belong to the latest generation of foldable smartphones. It means that the traditional touch screen can be split in two, thus doubling the functions it can perform simultaneously. For example, it will be possible to write on one side and in the meantime consult emails on the other, use two social networks at the same time, chat and in the meantime watch a video or search for a photo in the album. The goal is precisely to intercept all possible uses, now more than multiple, of smartphones, starting with video streaming and video games. The Huawei Mate Xs is obviously 5G compatible and is so expensive for another reason: the battery has a very long autonomy.

Here are the most relevant technical aspects: made with a zirconium-based liquid metal, the new hinge is much stronger and makes the 180° opening simple and linear. All to protect the screens: the main 6,6-inch and the secondary 6,38 which, when opened in "tablet format", are transformed into an 8-inch diagonal. Great news for the processor: Kirin 990 5G is in fact the most powerful that the manufacturer has available at the moment and promises monstrous performance. Confirmed instead the partnership with Leica for cameras, so much so that the device has 4 positioned on the sidebar: a 40MP main camera (wide-angle, f/1,8), a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2,2), an 8MP telephoto (f /2,4, OIS) and a 3D Depth Sensing Camera. Obviously to push Mate Xs will be EMUI 10.0.1, Huawei's operating system based on Android and Open Source.
