Eni Group: Versalis finalizes the acquisition of 100% Novamont from Mater-Bi. The pole of green chemistry is born

Eni acquires, through the chemical subsidiary Versalis, the 100% of Novamont. This was announced by the oil group on the occasion of the publication of the quarterly. Versalis, Eni's chemical subsidiary and 36% shareholder of Novamont, e Mater-Bi, a company controlled by Investitori Associati II and NB Renaissance, signed the agreement for the acquisition by Versalis of the remaining 64% of the Novamont share package held by Mater-Bi. Novamont is a leading international company in the field of chemistry from renewable sources. The transaction strengthens Eni's strategy on green chemistry and has been prepared over the last year.

In fact, just over a year ago, Versalis had increased its stake in Novamont, reconfirming its commitment to Matrìca – the JV set up in 2011 between Versalis and Novamont in Porto Torres and specialized in the production of bio-based products from renewable sources.

The acquisition of Novamont, a B Corp certified benefit company, a leading player in the circular bioeconomy sector and in the market for the development and production of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics and biochemicals, “represents a great opportunity to accelerate the strategy through the integration of a unique and complementary technology, providing a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of the product portfolio”, underlines the press release with which the Eni group announced the conclusion of the acquisition operation.

The operation will make it possible to strengthen the Novamont platform by accelerating the development of multi-product supply chains with high added value and local projects to decouple the use of natural resources from economic growth in the logic of doing more with less, concludes the press release.
