Gelati Sammontana, loan of 10 million from CDP

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti supports the growth plans of the Sammontana Group with a total loan of 10 million euros. The main objective of the resources is the completion of investments aimed at the dimensional growth of the historic ice cream and frozen pastry company.

Sammontana, present on the markets with its own brands (Sammontana, Tre Marie, Il Pasticcere and Bonchef) and with licensed brands (Ringo, Pan di Stelle), is national leader in the production and distribution of ice cream with the Sammontana brand, of frozen pastry with the Tre Marie and Il Pasticcere brands and in the creation of products with "private label" of the GDO. The range of frozen foods is completed by the marketing of savory products (bread, focaccia, ready meals) under the BonChef brand.

The Group operates directly through 3 production plants (Empoli, Vinci and Colognola ai Colli) and 13 branches located throughout Italy employing over 1000 people, distributes products through a network of about 100 dealers and distributors and has recently embarked on a path of internationalization with the opening of the branch in China (Shanghai).

The 2019 consolidated turnover of approximately 400 million euros confirmed the positive trend of constant economic and asset growth, which allowed the Group to deal with the impact due to the epidemiological emergency, keeping the Investment Plan unchanged, aimed at further growth and expansion.

“Support for Sammontana – he commented Nunzio Tartaglia, Head of the CDP Business Division – responds to CDP's desire to support the best Italian Mid Caps, already established in the reference sector and who intend to increase their competitiveness also on an international level. Sammontana, a historic Italian company now led by the third generation, has been able to build an enviable competitive position over the years, thanks to marketing and product innovation initiatives and the correct combination of economic and managerial skills, including attention to governance issues, ESG and disclosure transparency of financial statements. All this has allowed the Group to embark on a continuous growth path, which we are sure will continue despite the current emergency context".

“The agreement with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti – he added Leonardo Bagnoli, CEO of Sammontana – represents our company's willingness to seek interlocutors in the financial world that are complementary to those we have always found in the banking system. We trust that this is a first step towards evaluating further collaboration hypotheses also aimed at a progressive penetration of foreign markets. We are aware that CDP is able to provide a medium-sized company like Sammontana with various tools that can support us both in overcoming this delicate phase and in continuing our path of organic growth. The attention and availability that we have found in CDP's interlocutors in achieving this first objective bodes well for reaching new goals together.”
