Fiorentina, the captain Davide Astori has died
Fiorentina and the whole world of football woke up to tragic news: the captain, with 14 appearances for Italy, Davide Astori, was found dead at the age of 31 in the room of the "La' di Moret" hotel in Udine, where he was with the team to play at the Dacia Arena.
The defender probably died in his sleep, perhaps from a cardiac arrest. This morning he hadn't shown up for breakfast and at 9.30 the masseur went up to his room. The medical staff did not even attempt to revive him. Now, his body has been transported to the Udine Santa Maria della Misericordia morgue for an autopsy. The team is locked up in the hotel. The last person who saw him yesterday was Sportiello at around 23.30pm. The Viola executives called their parents in Bergamo to tell them the terrible news, while those who remained in Florence went to their partner's house.
The whole day of Serie A has been postponed by decision of the Lega Calcio commissioner Giovanni Malagò.
The chief prosecutor of Udine, on Monday, opened a manslaughter investigation against unknown persons. This is a practice already seen in these cases. The autopsy is expected in the next few days. According to the first hypothesis of the investigators, the defender from Bergamo would have been hit by a infarct.
