Facebook: Zuckerberg donates 99% of his shares to charity

Ad day for Mark Zuckerberg. With a post on his profile, Mr Facebook announced the birth of his daughter Max and the decision to donate 99% of Facebook shares to charity during his lifetime (currently worth around $45 billion in total).

In an open letter Zuckerberg and his wife Chan explained that they wanted to dedicate themselves to promoting equality in the world through an ad hoc non-profit organization, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Zuckerberg will donate his Facebook shares to the Foundation year after year to contribute to the development of numerous philanthropic projects: from the possibility of bringing the internet to the whole world to the cure of diseases, passing through the protection of the environment through the development of clean energy up to to get to the fight against poverty and hunger.

We close with a curiosity. As we write to you, we notice that Zuckerberg's post entitled “A letter to our daughter” has almost a million “Likes”. Among the many likes placed in the last 12 hours (the post was published at 22,08 pm Italian time), in addition to those of many general users, we also find those of international VIPs such as Shakira, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Furthermore, in the deluge of comments, we also find that of Melinda Gates, who is also involved in charity with her Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
