Apple will invest a billion dollars in the Vision Fund, the maxi fund launched by the Japanese company Softbank to finance the technologies of the future. “We believe that their new fund will accelerate the development of technologies that could be strategically important for Apple,” Kristin Huguet, a spokeswoman for the Cupertino company, told The Wall Street Journal, confirming the rumors published by the newspaper.
The Vision Fund was announced last October by SoftBank and aims to raise $100 billion in total. In addition to Apple's funds, it can already count on the very rich investments already made by it Softbank ($25 billion) and by the government ofSaudi Arabia (45 billion).
In the future, resources could also come from the sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority and by the American chip maker Qualcomm. For its part, Apple is positioned in a strategic position to exploit emerging technologies, while SoftBank secures a powerful ally in Silicon Valley.
