Amazon cuts another 9 thousand jobs, which add to the 18 thousand in January

Amazon gets his hands on the numbers of his workforce, deciding to cut others 9 thousand seats. The CEO of the American company gave the official news, Andy Jessy in a letter sent to employees in the past few hours. “I am writing to inform you that in the coming weeks we intend to eliminate another 9 positions, mainly in AWS, PXT (People Experience and Technology), Advertising and Twitch. It was a difficult decision, but one that we believe is best for the company in the long run."

This is the second cut of jobs announced by Amazon during 2023. These cuts, in fact, to the workers laid off last January, amounting to 18mila, in fact, the largest workforce reduction in the history of the Seattle giant. Confirming the deep crisis that is sweeping through the technology sector, in which not even Amazon has been spared.

With the worsening macro context grappling with few certainties, the e-commerce giant has decided to rethink the cuts. And with today's announcement, the total number of layoffs exceeds 27 employees. It is also true that Amazon has a much larger workforce than other Silicon Valley companies: at the end of September 2022 it could count on over 1,5 million employees.
