Alcoa third quarter above expectations

Alcoa returned to profit in the third quarter with profits of $24 million, or two cents a share, compared to a $143 million loss last year. The aluminum giant, which left the Dow Jones last month after 54 years of presence on the list, yesterday inaugurated - as per tradition - the new quarterly season by presenting a turnover of 5,77 billion dollars, down by 1,2% due to a 4,3% drop in shipments. Analysts had expected revenue of $5,63 billion. On Wall Street, the stock closed down 0,38% but then gained more than 2,5% in the after-hours.
