Greece still poised close to the Eurogroup

This morning the negotiations between Greece and its creditors went ahead and it seems that the positions have approached, however there is still no agreement and this afternoon's Eurogroup will discuss the Athens and Brussels proposals separately.

At the end of the meeting between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker and the heads of the IMF and the ECB, Christine Lagarde and Mario Draghi, Greek sources let it be known that the Hellenic proposal, updated with new details, had been accepted by the institutions as a working basis for the Eurogroup.

Shortly after, however, a source close to Juncker specified that "there is no agreement and the institutions are united". Half an hour away from the Eurogroup, therefore, there is still no already agreed basis for an agreement. It will therefore be the finance ministers, in the Eurogroup postponed to 13,30 pm, who will have to find a mediation between the two plans presented: the Greek one and that of the creditors.

If by 30 June an agreement is not found on the reforms that allow for the release of the last tranche of international aid worth 7,2 billion (agreed in February), Greece will not have the resources to pay the debts due this month with the International Monetary Fund, totaling 1,6 billion, and bankruptcy would be inevitable.
