“This train will go into operation by the end of the year and will represent a good link between high-speed and regional technology. There is also a good Wi-Fi setup. We are preparing to take advantage of the installation of the new optical fiber”, he began Luigi Ferraris, the Chief Executive Officer of the FS Group, at the presentation in Berlin of Blues, the new hybrid train, with triple fuel supply (electric, battery and diesel) and produced by Hitachi Rail, which has started trial runs in Sicily.
“This train is technologically very advanced, sustainable and less energy consuming than its predecessors”, continued the top management adding that “it will contribute, together with the deliveries of the new Rock and Pop trains, to making our regional fleet among the youngest in Europe with an average age of seven years”.
At the international debut of the new train there were, among others, Louis Corradi e Andrew Barr, respectively CEO of Trenitalia and Hitachi Rail, who illustrated the characteristics of the Blues, one of the most advanced trains in the world of sustainable railway transport.
Ferraris: "Europe is increasingly a multi-domestic market"
“Europe is increasingly becoming a multi-domestic market, an integrated market between the various nations in the field of transport and infrastructure in which companies will increasingly have to integrate and collaborate with each other. This is a path that must be pursued and strengthened in the freight transport as well as in the passenger sector so as to share and integrate synergies and skills”, continued Ferraris on the sidelines of the meeting with the group's foreign subsidiaries. “We must become system operators and not just rail freight transporters because systems are increasingly integrated. The keyword is integration”, as the CEO of Fs has repeatedly specified. “integration between ports, roads, railways and even airports. So we need to have a structured approach that allows us to intercept the flows of goods in all the various parts of the value chain, in a playing field that is the European one”.
The Trenitalia Blues at InnoTrans 2022
The Blues of Trenitalia, the company in charge of Passenger Pole of the FS Group, arrived in Berlin on the occasion of InnoTrans, the international exhibition for transport technologies where FS is present with the main innovations of the Group led by Ferraris in the context of green mobility of people and goods. The debut of the Blues will take place first in the Italian islands, or in Sicilia and Sardinia then it will be up to Tuscany, Lazio, Calabria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia in 2023. Thanks to its triple fuel system, the Blues will make it possible to reduce fuel consumption by 50% and reduce CO2 emissions compared to current diesel vehicles. A green train, recyclable al 95%.
