According to the Terna data, the company that operates the national transmission grid, in October the question di electric energy in Italy it was equal to a total of 24,6 billion kWh, un decreasing value of the 6,6 % compared to the same month of 2021. The decrease is also due to average monthly temperature about 2,8°C higher than in October 2021.
85,7% of the Italian electricity demand was met by domestic production and the remainder (14,3%) by the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. There national production net was equal to 21,3 billion kWh, a decrease of 4,6% compared to October 2021. The renewables produced a total of 6,9 billion kWh, covering 28% of electricity demand, thanks in particular to photovoltaic +17,6% (compared to 2021).
Renewable Sources: photovoltaics are growing, water and wind are decreasing
In the first ten months of 2022, the increase in capacity in Italy by renewable sources exceeds a total of 2.350 MW, recording a significant growth (+143%) compared to the same period of the 2021.
The growth of photovoltaics is due to the new installations in the area while the production of renewable energy through water and wind sources is decreasing.
La production of renewable sources was divided as follows in October: 30,4% photovoltaic, 26% water, 15,4% wind, 21,6% biomass and 6,6% geothermal. Despite a significant reduction in demand, the overall decline in the production of renewable sources and imports led to a positive change in thermal generation (+2,6% compared to October 2021).
Electricity demand up slightly compared to 2021
In the first ten months of 2022, the electricity demand in Italy it is up by 0,5% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 (-0,4% the adjusted value).
To contain gas consumption, the government's program for maximizing gas consumption is underway coal production: in October, coal-fired production grew by 56,6% compared to the same period in 2021.
