Reduce the digital divide and guarantee one ultra-broadband network even in areas of the country where it is still limited or absent. With this aim was born the new agreement signed between INWIT e Open Fiber which provides for the coverage of over 600 Municipalities distributed throughout the national territory with FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) technology. In detail, the agreement provides for the design and construction of up to a maximum of 500 new sites by INWIT, the construction of which will start in 2022, and the related infrastructure hosting and maintenance services; while Open Fiber will equip the sites with FWA equipment and fiber optic binding.
Secondo Mario Rossetti, CEO of OF, "the acceleration and completion of the network in the white areas is an absolute priority for Open Fiber, acceleration confirmed by the production data for the second quarter of 2022 which is the best result ever achieved by Open Fiber".
But this agreement wants to be another step towards the reduction of "that digital social marginalization still unfortunately present in many areas of our country", he underlined John Ferigo, CEO of INWIT. “If we really want to build an inclusive and sustainable society, we must think of digitization as an ally, as an enabling tool for a more sustainable future for all”.
