Economy: Award from the Municipality of Padua to companies that choose environmental sustainability

There are not many mayors who add to their duties the evaluation of local companies and organizations that use sustainability models. Generally they limit themselves to giving patronage to initiatives promoted by others. TO Padovainstead, the first citizen Sergio Giordani has launched the Compraverde Padua Award. An initiative of great economic-social value, after the years of the pandemic that took it away 1.300 companies. The Award is promoted together with the Chamber of Commerce, Confindustria Veneto Est, Cna and Confartigianato and is divided into two categories: "Decarbonisation and ecological transition for climate neutrality by 2030" and "Food sustainability". On December 5, during a dedicated forum, Giordani will announce the names of the winners.

Why did Padua think of an Award?

To support and give visibility to the actions of companies that adhere to a certain economic model. A model that we talk about every day, but which encounters all kinds of difficulties in establishing itself. The time has come to demonstrate what really happens inside the warehouses. It is also a stimulus to recover lost ground with Covid aimed at companies based in the Municipality of Padua, registered in the Chamber of Commerce or in the Register of Artisan Companies, and at start-ups.

Circular economy categories and objectives

The two categories were designed because they ultimately bring together a circularity of investments, purchases and consumption. An invisible but profitable system that will be evaluated by a Scientific Technical Committee and which will have to choose in the interest of the local economy.

Reduce it is the verb that leads the first category. In fact, companies that reduce consumption of energy, water, raw materials, dangerous chemicals, soil and waste can participate. Anything that is bad for company budgets and people.

The second category concerns projects for the "recovery and reduction of food waste, along the entire supply chain, from production to consumption". How to use food waste to create new products or optimize their use, manage food surpluses through donations to charities, agreements with third sector bodies. The 500 active agricultural businesses in particular, they have a good opportunity to demonstrate what they do for sustainable agriculture and zero km.

In December there will be a winner for each category and some special mentions. What does the winning company gain? The use of the Compraverde Prize logo for two years and, let's assume, many good deals in the name of an economy that creates wealth without disturbing the environment.
