This is a recurring problem for the Sicilian airport, which also marked the summer just ended, with thousands of canceled or diverted flights due to eruptions and the presence of volcanic ash in the atmosphere.
In a new statement, SAC, the Catania airport management company, announced that, "due to the emission of volcanic ash into the atmosphere and the current prevailing wind direction," the closure of the areas corresponding to sector C1 has been extended.
