The independence of Catalonia will be proclaimed on Monday. This was stated by the Candidatura d'Unitat Popular (Cup), the party of the Catalan independence left, according to which at the plenary of the Parlament in Barcelona, "independence and the Catalan Republic will be proclaimed".
El Pais recalls that Junts pel Yes and the Cup itself officially asked for an intervention by the President of Catalonia Carles Puigdeomnt on Monday in the courtroom.
Madrid let it be known that it will react in a "legal and proportionate" manner in response to Puigdemont's moves. According to some government sources quoted by the AGI: "Rajoy is willing to negotiate with a legitimate government that follows the rules, not with Puigdemont: Barcelona holds new elections, from there the new interlocutors will come".
