The Italian Treasury fills up at auction. All 7,5 billion euro of 1-year BOTs were sold with a yield down to 1,053% from 1,078% at the July auction. The demand was equal to 1,49 times the amount offered, slightly down from the 1,56 times of the previous placement. "Good auction which confirms the moment of easing of tensions on Italian debt", commented Filippo A. Diodovich, market stategist at IG.
According to the data published by the Bank of Italy in the supplement to the statistical bulletin "Public finance, borrowing requirement and debt", the upward trend in the portfolio of Italian government securities held by foreign investors continued in May, the it reaches a new high for about a year and a half. In detail, the figure for the month of May shows a rise in the amount of government bonds held by foreigners to 693,522 billion (the highest level after the 703,858 billion recorded in February 2012) from 673,934 billion the previous month.
