Apple, here is iOS 12: guide to the new operating system for iPhone and iPad

It's the big day of iOS 12. At 19.00 today, September 17, Apple will release the new operating system for iPhone and IPad.

After presented the three new iPhones, XS, XS Max and XR, Cupertino also makes available to its users the new beating heart of each of its devices.

iOS 12, in fact, as usual, will not only be available for the new generation of iPhones and iPads, but also for older devices.

Here's everything you need to know.

iOS 12: COMPATIBLE IPHONES AND IPADS

The new operating system from Apple will be compatible with all iPhone starting from 5S, namely: iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and 7Plus, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, XS Max and XR. iOS 12 will not be able to install on the iPhone 5C.

As far as the iPad Mini, we will start from the second generation ones. On the iPad instead we will start from the fifth generation, while on the iPad Air, iPad Pro and iPod touch it will be compatible with the sixth generation.

iOS 12: HOW TO INSTALL

After making a backup, an operation that is always recommended before performing an update, the installation of iOS 12 can be done in the usual way: just go to Settings, click on General and check for a "Software update”. In the event that a red notification appears on our iPhone, it will mean that iOS 12 is already available and we can proceed with the installation. At that point you just have to click on “Download and install".

iOS 12: THE MOST IMPORTANT NEWS

Among the most awaited innovations there are certainly the new functions of Crab, which will allow you to give voice commands to applications on the iPhone and iPad. Notifications will be grouped and you will be able to make group Facetime calls. Then there will be the Memoji (the Animoji on one's own features) and a new "Do not disturb" mode.

It will then debut with iOS 12 Screen Time, the summary picture of the relationship with your iPhone aimed at helping the user to understand "if he is exaggerating". Any examples? Screen Time will even tell you how many times the phone is picked up. Curiosity also for the new augmented reality system, which will arrive with the Measure app and which will allow you to use the apps in a more engaging and fun way.

iOS 12: THE PERFORMANCE

But the most anticipated news concerns the promises made by Apple on the performance that the new operating system is able to guarantee, even on older devices, which could return as snappy as in the good old days.

There is talk, in detail, of a camera that is even 70% faster at startup, a keyboard that is 50% faster and much more responsive.
