Fifteen thousand euros to each municipality that wants reclaim the area from the presence of asbestos. The tender of the Ministry of the Environment - provided for by a decree of 2017 - sets the deadline for submitting applications at 30 April. The total coverage for the reclamations is 16 million euro and inside are the costs for both preliminary and final design. The need to secure the sites was mainly requested by the Municipalities at risk, which have been grappling with the great impact of outlawed materials for years. The money that each mayor can ask will be managed directly by the local administrations. However, the Ministry of the Environment explained that the new decree (after that of 2016) defines the methods of access to funds, the evaluation criteria and the formation of the ranking.
The applications that will have repercussions on companies specialized in the management of asbestos, will be evaluated with respect to the types of beneficiary structures. Primarily schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, reception centres, hospitals, sports facilities. Not of secondary importance are the reports received by the Municipalities from Arpa, ASL and other environmental protection bodies with the effect of attributing a priority to the structures most at risk. In many cities, projects defined as workable are at a standstill due to lack of financial coverage. However, with the availability of funds, the works will have to be completed within a year of the disbursement of the grant. There shouldn't be any more delays, to also give meaning to the national mapping of polluted sites of 2003. A very heavy and threatening issue that still estimates the presence of around 40 million tons spread in often unthinkable places.
