Goodbye to Gigi Riva, 79 years old, one of the strongest Italian strikers ever, Lombard by birth but flag of Cagliari, with which he won a championship and of which he was honorary president, and of National Italian. He died in the cardiology department at the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari, after he was hospitalized for an illness and heart surgery, which however he refused.
Gigi Riva, called Thunderclap by Gianni Brera for the strength of his shots, he had brought it in 1969-70 title to Cagliari, from which he never wanted to move despite the pharaonic offers from the major Italian clubs, starting with that of Juventus. In 1968 he made us win the European Championships and in 1970 he was one of the protagonists of the World Cup in Mexico: even today with 35 goals he remains the strongest goalscorer of the national team for which he played 42 times. A football legend who will remain forever in the hearts of athletes.
