A tax that is no longer just a tourist tax, i.e. no longer just for those who stop to sleep, but a disembarkation tax, which must also be paid by travelers passing through Venice during the day. It is the novelty arriving in 2019, much desired by the mayor of the lagoon city Luigi Brugnaro, it is now possible thanks to the budget law just approved, which provides, among many other things, the possibility that the municipality of Venice introduces the so-called "landing fee", a tax that already existed for the smaller islands and which serves to make all tourists – even those who do not stay overnight in the places they visit – pay a contribution to the municipalities they visit. The mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro had been asking for the possibility of making tourists visiting Venice pay the "landing fee" for some time and - after the approval of the budget law - he has already said that the Municipality will soon approve a regulation that will make it effective . Therefore, the new tax does not exist yet, but it is certain that it will be introduced and its amount will be 5 euros, being the total limit set at 10 euros with the tourist tax that already exists and which in Venice amounts to 5 euros.

The daily ticket, to define it like this, in fact, it will be added to the tourist tax, the one that almost all tourists have to pay on holiday when they book a hotel not only in Venice but throughout Italy: a small surcharge (no more than 5 euros, which is what you pay in Venice, but often less than 2,50, XNUMX euros per night) which hoteliers in tourist resorts then pay in full to the Municipalities, which use the funds raised for investments related to tourism. The idea behind the tax was to make tourists also participate in the payment of the costs for the city's services – waste collection and street cleaning, for example – which they actually used free of charge. The tourist tax, however, is paid only by those who stay overnight in a certain municipality, and not by those who visit that municipality in a day: a type of tourism - often called "hit and run" - very common in Venice, perhaps arriving from Milan or other northern cities with high-speed trains or staying overnight nearby, for example in Mestre.
The tourist tax paid today by those who sleep in Venetian accommodation facilities already generates over 30 million euros a year (33 million the figure in 2018). According to initial estimates, an additional fee could accrue from the new tax annual revenue between 40 and 50 million euros.
