Amazon creates new jobs in Italy and signs a agreement with the unions. “By 2021 they will be there 3 thousand new hires and we will reach 12.500 employees” in our country, announced Mariangela Marseglia, vice president and country manager of Amazon.it and Amazon.es at Career Day. “By this year we will have 50 sites and a very important presence in Italy”, added the manager. At the moment, over 500 new permanent positions are open at Amazon, of which more than 50 in the technology field.
Meanwhile, Amazon and the Italian logistics unions (Filt, Fit and Uiltrasporti) have signed an agreement in which they undertake to build discussions and hold periodic meetings to check the application of the collective agreement. The agreement, described as "historic" by the unions, came after a strike last March that blocked Amazon's entire Italian supply chain for a day.
The workers' representatives explain that the agreement will make it possible to “start negotiations on organizational issues such as schedules, shifts, workloads, on regulatory issues such as the correct recognition of classification levels, on matters of health, safety and prevention at work, on training and on economic topics such as the performance bonus, incentives and special surcharges. Negotiations on these issues will also be possible at a territorial level".
It is an important turning point also from a global point of view, because until now Amazon had always opposed – worldwide – the entry of trade unions into its warehouses.
“With this agreement – commented the Minister of Labour, Andrea Orlando – Amazon is committed to a method of confrontation with the union that, we must say, other countries have chosen not to use. This is an important choice for what Amazon represents in the logistics sector and for what logistics itself represents today in the economic dynamics of our country. This is a strategic sector for all of our production and commercial distribution which I believe can help improve the picture of the situation in the logistics sector marked by strong conflict. Amazon is an important piece that can positively affect the picture of union relations".
