Terna starts construction sites for the new one power line "Colunga-Calenzano”, between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. The company led by Stefano Donnarumma will carry out a work within two years that will help resolve grid congestion in one of the critical areas of the national electricity system. With an investment of approximately 170 million euros, the new connection will ensure a significant increase in the exchange capacity between the North and Centre-North and the strengthening of the mesh of the electricity grid. This is one of the main and most important development projects envisaged by Terna in the Driving Energy Business Plan.
In detail, the project involves the construction of a new power line of 84 kilometers which will involve, in all, 12 municipalities, of which nine in the province of Bologna (Castenaso, San Lazzaro, Ozzano, Pianoro, Monterenzio, Monghidoro, San Benedetto Val di Sambro, Castiglione dei Pepoli and Loiano) and three in the province of Florence (Firenzuola, Barberino di Mugello and Calenzano), as well as the demolition of approximately 106 km of old overhead power lines.
The construction sites will start from municipality of Calenzano, where two overhead lines will be demolished and replaced by two sections of underground cable of 3 and 5 km. Two other lines will be demolished in exchange for the construction of a single overhead line, the initial section of the new connection.
With more than 16 km of new underground lines, the infrastructure will allow an improvement in the safety and resilience of the electricity system and, at the same time, will generate important environmental benefits for local communities. Furthermore, the intervention will make it possible to return over 200 hectares of land to the local communities.
Furthermore, during the construction of the power line, the morphological characteristics of the territories will be taken into consideration in order to minimize the impacts in the places concerned. In this regard, the company that manages the national electricity grid is planning a series of meetings in the coming months (starting from Wednesday 23 February at 17:00) with the citizens of the municipalities concerned with the aim of providing information on the methods and timing of construction sites .
