Salini Impregilo wants to go shopping abroad. This was revealed in an interview with the Financial Times by Pietro Salini, number one of the Italian general contractor, confirming that the group is in line with the objective of increasing revenues to 7 billion in 2014 (from 4 in 2013), not only through organic growth, but also thanks to some acquisitions.
“We can start looking for opportunities to grow – the manager told the British newspaper -. It would not be another Italian competitor. We want to look for realities in other parts of the world that allow us to enter new markets”.
Salini added that the goal is to enter those markets "where one can grow very rapidly", which however are not many. To date, the company is present in 50 countries around the world, but carries out insignificant activities in countries such as Australia and the United States, which guarantee rapid growth in the infrastructure sector.
From this point of view, Salini does not rule out following Fiat's example and transferring the headquarters abroad: “At the beginning of the year we were thinking of transferring everything – he added -. With each passing day we are a more international group. I do not deny that we will. In Italy we have few people compared to the 35 who work in the group. However today we are a little more confident. At the end of last year it was difficult to stay. Loan spreads were very high. Just to be Italian we had to pay three times more than our competitors”.
