Fiat Chrysler Automobile is the Italian company that invests the most in research and development: with 4,1 billion euros, the company led by Sergio Marchionne dominates the Italian ranking and makes its way into Europe in tenth position, according to what emerges from the 2016 Scoreboard of industrial R&D investment in 2015-2016 (data updated to June 2016) presented by the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, according to which companies on the continent invested a total of 188,3 billion euros in research.
In second place in Italy another company of the Agnelli galaxy, or the parent company Exor with 1,9 billion, which presents a growth of 12,1% on the previous year (same percentage for FCA) and in Europe it is 23rd. Then there are Telecom Italia, Leonardo, Ferrari, Unicredit, Intesa Sanpaolo, Chiesi, Pirelli and Eni.
Leading the continental ranking of investments in research and development is another car player, Volkswagen, with 13,6 billion and the automotive sector monopolizes the ranking with 50,3 billion euros of total investments. Among the pharmaceutical industries, the second sector in Europe for investments with 37,3 billion, France and England stand out with Sanofi and Astrazeneca, while to find the first Italian one you have to scroll through 117 positions with Chiesi Farmaceutici, eighth in Italy with 236 million invested but growing by 40,5% over the previous year.
