Saving Easter: 8 out of 10 Italians will stay at home

Only 7 million Italians will leave for the Easter holidays: the favorite destinations are Rome, Florence and Venice in Italy and New York, London and Amsterdam abroad, but alternative destinations are also growing - Average spending on food is also down , at an altitude of 68 euros.

Easter savings for Italians. To say it is the survey on consumption and holidays conducted by Confesercenti and SWG on the occasion of the Easter period, according to which more than 8 out of 10 Italians will celebrate the anniversary at home.

Therefore, the number of people who have planned a holiday during the holiday week is down, falling around the quota 7 million (14%), against the 12,6 million registered in 2015 (25%).

The main destinations chosen by Italians, second Kayak.it, are the domestic ones, among which Rome stands out, followed on the podium by Florence and Venice. Milan is relegated to fourth place, while Livigno and Abano Terme enter the top 10.

For trips abroad, the favorite destination of Italians is, instead, New York, followed by London and Amsterdam, joined by the alternative destinations which, according to Kayak, have recorded the greatest increases in bookings compared to last year: Zanzibar (+378%), Saint Martin – Simpson Bay (+310%), Manila (+269%), Colombo (+194%) and Fez (+156%).

In any case, according to the Confesercenti report, the average duration of the holiday will be 3-4 days, with an expected average expenditure of 390 euros per person and a total turnover of 2,8 billion euros. Among the 14% of Italians who planned to take a trip, the great majority (11%, equal to 5,5 million) chose an Italian location for their holidays, while only 3% (1,5 million of people) will go abroad.

Also food consumption of Italians will be dedicated to saving for Easter: 35% of Italians will in fact allocate less than 50 euros to purchases of food and sweets to set the table, 38% will arrive at 100 euros and only 10% will dedicate more than that sum to celebrate. The expected average expenditure for food consumption will amount to 68 euros.
