After six months of negotiations and postponements, it's now official: Inter is changing hands. Massimo Moratti has sold the club to a consortium of Indonesian entrepreneurs led by Erick Thohir, whose holding company acquires 70% of the club's shares. "We have signed," confirmed the Nerazzurri president, who is no longer able to support the team's liabilities (at least 70 million each year).
Thohir will definitely be joined by Roslan Roeslani and Handy Soetedjo. In the future, the Bakrie family, very close to the Thohirs and currently engaged in the electoral campaign for the 2014 presidential elections in Indonesia, could also enter the company's capital.
"Satisfied? Yes… It took a long time, but I'd say it was balanced – Moratti said after the decisive match -. What to say fans? Bah, I pretend this thing is pretty regular and all, but it's still amazing. I'll see what I feel like saying. As always when something changes in life you don't know if you're sorry or if you'll adapt to a new reality, at a different pace. Certainly you have all the love for a certain thing and also the satisfaction or relief of thinking you have placed Inter in good hands, and I'm sure of this because they are very respectable people, good in terms of character. Everyone leaves their mark and over time that of the new owners will be different from mine, the important thing is that they are respectful of everything, but I have no doubts about this too”.
In the sports arena, Thohir has already made his debut in NBA basketball – with a participation in the Philadelphia 76ers – and in US soccer, with the co-presidency of DC United. Both experiences, however, have so far proved to be almost unsuccessful.
