A new latest generation power line, completely underground and built in record time (13 months), just in time for the start of the Alpine Ski World Championships, scheduled in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Belluno) from Sunday 7 February and until February 21st. The new high voltage power line which connects the pearl of the Dolomites to Auronzo di Cadore (it is 24 km long) was built by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, with an investment of 60 million: a further 370 million will be invested again in the Veneto region over the next five years, according to the plan for the reorganization of the Dolomites and the upgrading of the infrastructure in all of the Northeast.
The line winds for 15 km in the Municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo and 9 km in the Municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, between the electrical substations of Zuel and Somprade respectively, and is of strategic importance for a large area of the North-East: together to the new Auronzo di Cadore station (in Cima Gogna), currently under construction, and to the reorganization of the existing 132 kV and 220 kV grid, "the new cable - explains Terna - helps to increase the mesh and improve efficiency, the reliability and resilience of the local electricity grid, exposed to outages e strongly stressed by extreme climatic conditions that have occurred in recent years".
The construction involved 27 specialized companies, many of which were local, and up to 100 workers on construction sites, and was carried out according to the best standards of sustainability and environmental protection, leaving intact the wooded landscape of the Upper Belluno area. As mentioned, the works were very fast despite the Covid pandemic, in order to limit the inconvenience as much as possible for the local population and for tourism (actually practically at a standstill) in the area
