The Tokyo Stock Exchange closed the session sharply lower. L'Nikkei index marked a decline of 1,95% to 14.426,05 points, while the Topix it lost 1,52%, to 1.195,98 points. Intense activity on the market with 2,73 billion shares traded.
The new weakness of the dollar against the yen, which hit exporting companies, penalized the Japanese list above all. The decline in the US currency came after the release of disappointing data on the US labor market.
Rumors of a possible tightening of monetary policy in China also weighed on Tokyo, amplified by a rate hike on the Chinese money market.
