It will not be a week of ordinary administration that begins today for Italian banks and not only because bank stocks are always and often unjustifiably in the eye of the storm on the Stock Exchange.
During the week, according to what Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan has promised, the government decree on banks should finally see the light of day, which is made up of three parts: the reform of the CCBs, measures to speed up the judicial recovery of non-performing loans with the reform of bankruptcy law and the implementation of the European agreements on bad banks with the guarantee of the State.
But there is also great expectation for the Unicredit accounts which the CEO Federico Ghizzoni will present on Tuesday to the market and which will say a clear word on the real state of health of the bank in Piazza Gae Aulenti in Milan, on which the subsequent confirmation or the renewal of the group's summit at the next spring meeting.
No less awaited for Thursday is the definitive pronouncement of the TAR on the appeals against the Renzi government's reform of cooperative banks. Finally, last but not least, by the end of the week there could be white smoke on the wedding between Banca Popolare di Milano and Banco Popolare di Verona which would pave the way for bank mergers creating the third largest Italian banking group after the reform.
