“We learned with surprise and displeasure the statements of Dr. Carlo Cimbri, Chief Executive Officer of UnipolSai and member of the Executive Committee of ANIA, on the desire of his Group to leave the Association, motivated by the need to review the association's governance deemed inadequate to ensure a more efficient representation of member companies and to improve the capacity for political and institutional interlocution”, states an official note from Ania, the association of Italian insurance companies led by Aldo Minucci.
“First of all, it should be emphasized that the governance of the Association had already been modified with the agreement of all the members at the beginning of 2012, with the primary aim of guaranteeing a more active participation of the member companies in the operational management of ANIA, improving the quality and effectiveness of services” adds ANIA which continues as follows: “During the Executive Committee last September, on the occasion of the discussion on the renewal of expiring associative bodies, some companies had raised the opportunity of a further refinement of governance. To this end, a special Commission was set up made up of representatives of the main companies, including UnipolSai".
“The Commission concluded its activity by preparing a proposal to be submitted to the next Committee in November. The proposal had the contribution and adhesion of all the participants, with the exception of the representative of UnipolSai who did not participate in the final meeting nor did he communicate any alternative proposals and assessments. We hope that the announced decision can be reconsidered, also in the light of the proposed new governance structure and UnipolSai's historical closeness to the Association”.
"In fact, we believe - concludes ANIA - that in such a difficult context for the Italian economy and a major legislative and regulatory change for our sector, the ability of the insurance industry to speak with a single strong and authoritative voice is a primary asset for every company, for policyholders and, ultimately, for the country”.
