The former president of Sicindustria, Antonello Montante, was arrested by the Caltanissetta police together with five other people.
Montante, today president of the Chamber of Commerce of Caltanissetta and president of Retimpresa Servizi of Confindustria Nazionale, and the other arrested are accused in various ways of having associated with the aim of committing multiple crimes against the public administration and of abusive access to the computer system, as well as more crimes of corruption. According to the investigators, an illegal network was created to spy on the investigation that was launched against the former president of Sicindustria three years ago, after the declarations of some Mafia repentants.
Montante's lawyer, Nino Caleca, declared: “After 4 years, the investigation for external competition ends up with nothing, however, no evidence has been found for the initial accusatory hypothesis. Only individual episodes are disputed - continues the lawyer - which Montante will clarify in the appropriate forums ".
According to reports from Ansa, among those arrested, all under house arrest, there would also be three agents of the state police who were allegedly part of a spy network in Montante's service. A sixth suspect was notified of a disqualification measure (suspension for one year from work).
As part of the same investigation, 22 other people, not reached by some measures, were allegedly investigated on charges of having participated in the chain of news leaks. Among them the former president of the Senate Renato Schifani who, according to the investigators, would have revealed secret information on the investigation that led to Montante's arrest. Other suspects include former general Arturo Esposito, former director of the civil secret service (Aisi); Andrea Cavacece, head of the Aisi department; Andrea Grassi, former manager of the first division of the Central Operational Service of the police.
