Fiat communicated today to Fiom-Cgil that it will accept the appointment of its company union representatives following the sentence of the Constitutional Court of last July 23rd. This is what can be read in a note from the Lingotto. In this way, the company "intends to respond definitively to any further instrumental controversy in relation to the application of the decision of the Supreme Court".
Furthermore, recalls Fiat, "this establishes, obviously, a principle of a general nature - the ownership of the rights referred to in article 19 of the Workers' Statute to the trade union organizations that have participated in the negotiations for the signing of the contracts applied in the company - the whose traceability to Fiom in the concrete Fiat situation is more than doubtful».
In any case, as also suggested by the Constitutional Court, concludes Fiat, a legislative intervention is "unavoidable": "the certainty of the law in such a delicate matter as that of trade union representation and the enforceability of contracts - we read - is a condition sine qua non for the very continuity of Fiat's industrial commitment in Italy».
