After the G20 in Cannes, Europe is back to work trying to finalize anti-crisis measures and implement the agreements reached so far. Meetings of the Eurogroup and Ecofin respectively scheduled for today and tomorrow in Brussels. The meetings were already scheduled, therefore no extraordinary meetings, but it is clear that the work agenda will concern topics of burning relevance: how strengthen the stability fund (the Efsf, the bailout fund), how recapitalize the banks and how handle situations Greece and Italy.
The presence of the Minister of the Economy, Giulio Tremonti, is expected for our country as early as 17pm today. The main dish however, European Union sources say, will arrive tomorrow: it is in fact in the Ecofin headquarters that the procedures to be followed after the decisions taken during the last European Council will be discussed. We will also begin to study the eventual introduction of a tax on financial transactions (Tobin tax). There will then be "an exchange of views" on the Cannes summit in recent days. But above all, it does not hide that “the adoption of tools for monitoring and surveillance of macroeconomic imbalances".
Finally, the ministers of economy and finance of the European Union will have to define the common strategy against climate change to be presented in Durban (South Africa) for the world conference on climate, scheduled from 28 November to 9 December.
