The General Command of the Carabinieri and Pirelli have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the testing of Pirelli Cyber Tyre technology on some vehicles of the Rome Radiomobile Unit, with the aim of monitor the "health" of Rome's road infrastructure to identify potential risk factors and help improve safetyThe initiative begins with the installation of the Pirelli system on five Alfa Romeo Tonales used for territorial control and emergency response services. Cyber Tyre, through sensors integrated into the tires, proprietary algorithms, and advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies, will enable the collection and analysis of data relating to the state of the road network, contributing to the timely identification of potential critical issues.
In the trial launched with the Carabinieri, tire data will be integrated with data collected by on-board cameras and analyzed using artificial intelligence algorithms developed by technology partner Univrses. The combination of sensors and computer vision will allow for the detection of road surface anomalies or critical signage issues, contributing to the creation of a constantly updated map of the road network. The use of Pirelli's technology will be completely automatic, requiring no operator intervention.
Cyber Tyre has already been used in similar monitoring projects with Movyon (a company of the Autostrade per l'Italia group) and with the Puglia Region.
On the occasion of the signing of the agreement, the General Commander of the Carabinieri, Gen. CA Salvatore Luongo highlighted “the constant attention to innovation in all the sectors in which we are involved”, explaining that: “It is a question of a technological leap forward that fully fits our vision: to make innovation an element of profound cultural renewal, to carry out our mission in an ever new and effective way."

Pirelli Cyber Tyre has transformed the tire from a mechanical component to an intelligent device. Thanks to a sensor inside the tire, the system collects information, processes it using Pirelli software and algorithms, and transfers it in real time to on-board systems or dedicated platforms. The technology is used both in vehicles, where it communicates with ABS, ESP, and traction control, making electronic control systems more effective, and in monitoring road infrastructure, allowing the creation of road network health maps that are useful to management agencies for planning maintenance.
