Enel, through Rusenergosbyt, the Russian joint venture between Enel and ESN, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement and expansion of the partnership with the joint stock company Russian Railways. The agreement also includes an extension of the energy supply contract which has linked the two companies since 2008.
With this new agreement, the two companies will be able to plan interventions and investments over longer time horizons.
The signing ceremony was held today in Moscow, on the sidelines of the bilateral meeting between the Italian and Russian governments, in the presence of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Francesco Starace, CEO and General Manager of Enel, and Oleg Belozerov, CEO of Russian Railways, have renewed the agreement with the aim of ensuring a stable and reliable supply to the Russian railway company, also committing to significantly increase the energy efficiency in all segments of the transport sector, including through the use of renewable energy and promoting automation and digitization solutions”, Enel explains in a note.
We recall that in May 2018, Enel signed an agreement with Russia Railways aimed at developing innovative energy storage systems to be installed along the Russian railway network, a type of battery that is technologically advanced and never used in the global railway sector.
