Stock market, Saipem collapses after Consob dispute

Passion day for Saipem at Piazza Affari. The share of the plant engineering company of the Eni group lost more than three and a half points in mid-morning, placing itself at the bottom of the Ftse Mib. Exchanges were quite lively: over 641 shares changed hands in the first few minutes of trading, when the average of the last thirty days for the entire session is just under 3,6 million shares traded.

Saipem is affected by disputes arrived yesterday from Consob to the 2012 budget, where, according to the Commission, €630 million of contract corrections are missing. Consob also challenged last January's profit warning, arguing that it was released late.

Sul judicial front, however, yesterday it was learned that at the end of July the director of Saipem's Engineering & Construction area, Pietro Varone (suspended from office on December 5th) was arrested at the request of the Milan prosecutor's office. The accusation is international corruption and the investigation concerns the alleged payment of bribes in Algeria by Saipem to obtain seven contracts worth eight billion euros.
