To push the actions of the energy giant are the rumors about one possible sale of 20% of the large gas fields in Mozambique to the Chinese China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC). An operation that could be worth around 4 billion euros. The two companies have been in talks for at least six months, even if the details of the operation are still being defined. 

In October 2011, Eni's CEO, Paolo Scaroni, defined the discovery of the fields in Mozambique as "the biggest ever made by Eni". Thanks to the success in the African country, the hydrocarbon reserves of the Italian group had increased by 20%. 

To push Eni there is also the go-ahead from the British offshore regulator for the resumption of production at the Elgin-Franklin field in the North Sea, where production had been halted for a year due to a gas leak. The field was controlled by Total with 46,2%, followed by Eni with 21,8%.

Meanwhile, the president of the Russian oil giant Rosneft, Igor Sechin, said that “in order to develop large-scale projects, Rosneft is engaged with ExxonMobil, Eni and Statoil, its strategic partners. For their part there will be investments in the geological exploration of at least $ 14 billion“. The exploration program includes the drilling of 96 wells.

Rosneft currently holds 41 offshore production licenses for 275 billion barrels of oil. With Eni, Rosneft will work in two sectors of the Barents Sea and in the western area of ​​the Black Sea.
