The German Bayer could decide to launch a hostile offer on the American Monsanto, if it were to receive a new refusal, as revealed today by Handelsblatt. Monsanto has in fact already rejected Bayer's offer twice, judging it insufficient, but remaining open to negotiations. According to the German newspaper, Bayer should make a decision in the coming weeks as the discussions are at a decisive stage.
The new offer would envisage a price increase of between 5 and 10% (the last offer made in mid-July was equal to 125 dollars per share). In the event of a new stalemate, Bayer's top management would be ready to address Monsanto's shareholders directly.
