Strategy and investments

Economic distribution

Of the 3,2 billion distributed by Hera in 2024, 2,1 billion (66%) remained in the territories served, while 1,2 billion were allocated to local suppliers, including 96 million for social cooperatives, to support the employment of approximately 1.000 disadvantaged people.

The 2024-2028 business plan calls for a total redistribution of €10,8 billion, with an annual average of more than €2,2 billion. On the social front, Hera reports 143 agreements with municipalities to prevent service interruptions and €179 million in installments.

Carbon neutrality

Hera aims at Net Zero by 2050, with an intermediate target of a 37% reduction in emissions by 2030. Already in 2024, greenhouse gas emissions dropped by 14% compared to 2019, while domestic energy consumption fell by 8% compared to 2013.

On the free market, almost half of the electricity sold to households (49%) comes from renewables, up from 43% in 2023, with the goal of reaching 58% by 2028. Renewable production reached 732 GWh, equal to 33,5% of the total, and biomethane fed into the grid exceeded 10 million cubic meters.

Significant increases are expected in the coming years: capacity PV will increase from 19 MW in 2024 to 300 MW by 2028, while the production of renewable gases will grow by 54%

Regeneration of resources

In the treatment of wasteHera reports a recycling rate of 61%, above EU 2030 targets, and separate waste collection of 74,3%. Only 2,2% of waste ends up in landfill, compared to the national average of 20%.

On the water front, the wastewater reuse The company's water efficiency reached 11%, close to its 14,4 target of 2028%, while water losses remained at 8,4 cubic meters per square kilometer per day, less than half the national average. Since 2018, the company has reported reusing 75% of the land involved in new infrastructure projects.

Resilience and innovation

Hera has invested 359 million euros in 2024 in interventions on water, electricity, and gas networks, and facilities. Post-flood work has begun in Emilia-Romagna; in the Triveneto and Marche regions, interventions are being carried out on overhead lines, wells, reservoirs, and AI-based monitoring systems.

The 2024-2028 plan includes €1,7 billion in investments in service resilience, averaging approximately €350 million per year.
