A way to Leonardo DelVecchio in the industrial heart of its Essilor Luxottica. The initiative represents a symbolic and concrete gesture by the Municipal Administration of agordo, in the Belluno area, and of the group to celebrate a bond that goes beyond industrial history and is rooted in the life of a specific mountain community.
The street of Luxottica's first production site
It is along this road that, over sixty years ago, Leonardo Del Vecchio founded Luxottica, now EssilorLuxottica, starting an entrepreneurial journey that has made Agordo a global point of reference for the optical industry and beyond. Today, the production site at the foot of the Dolomites has around five thousand employees, represents the historical and productive heart of the company, a central hub for activities related to the luxury segment, Made in Italy, management of factories around the world and product innovation. The naming of the street pays homage to a man who was able to combine business and attention to people and the dignity of work, leaving a deep and lasting mark on the territory. Leonardo Del Vecchio believed from the beginning in the value of his collaborators, in the social role of the company and in the importance of looking far ahead, contributing to the economic, cultural and civil development of the Belluno area.
Roberto Chissalè, Mayor of Agordo explains: “This initiative confirms the deep bond between the company, the city of Agordo and the entire valley, and renews the common commitment to honor, preserve and pass on the memory of the founder of EssilorLuxottica. As a Municipal Administration, we feel the duty to preserve it and pass it on to future generations, so that his example continues to inspire. Remembering Leonardo Del Vecchio means recognizing that every great enterprise is born where there are strong roots, a united community and the ability to look far without forgetting where we started from”. The Francesco Milleri, Chairman and CEO of EssilorLuxottica, adds his comment on behalf of the company and the entire employee community: “We are happy that today, in addition to the large dolomite rock unveiled last year at the center of the plant, the road that connects the factory to the world will also bear his name.
