The European stock exchanges recovered in the wake of Wall Street despite the geopolitical tensions in Ukraine and the Middle East and some disappointing macroeconomic data arriving from overseas in the early afternoon. The Ftse Mib closes up by 0,65%, leaving behind the cut on Bank of Italy's growth estimates: in fact, via Nazionale indicated in its economic bulletin that economic growth in Italy is "struggling to restart" and that gross domestic product will grow by a maximum of 0,2% this year. Not only that: on the 2014 forecast scenario there is a "downside risk" also due to the recent geopolitical tensions. But it has been revised upwards on 2105: from +1% to +1,3% mainly thanks to the expansionary measures of the ECB. The Btp bund spread closed up at 164 basis points. Contrasted by the other European Stock Exchanges: Paris +0,36%; London +0,08%, Frankfurt -0,51%, Madrid -0,24%. Gold dropped 0,68% to 1.308 dollars an ounce and WTI oil dropped 0,17% to 103,01 dollars a barrel. The euro dollar is broadly stable at 1,3517.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones rose by 0,58%, the S&P500 by 0,76%, the Nasdaq by 1,12%. Google shines on better-than-estimate results. On the other hand, the macroeconomic results are disappointing. The super-index of the American economy rose by 0,3% in June, below market expectations of +0,5%. Surprisingly, the US consumer confidence index measured by the University of Michigan dropped. The indicator stood at 81,3 points (preliminary estimate), down by 1,2 points compared to June. Analysts had expected an improvement of 1,5 points.
In Piazza Affari the best title is Salvatore Ferragamo +5,22% after an upgrade by Exane analysts. A2A (+4,09%), Banco Popolare (+3,80%) also performed well, benefiting from the "buy" opinion of Goldman Sachs. and World Duty Free (+2,22%). At the bottom of the Ftse Mib instead Autogrill -1,75% and UnipolSai -1,44% which lost 1,75% and 1,44% respectively. Eni and Enel, among the companies in Italy most exposed to Russia, closed at +0,46% and +0,97% respectively.
