Fastweb and Eolo have decided to join forces with strategic partnership to accelerate the diffusion of connectivity services ad high capacity in those parts of Italy where connections are still difficult.
In a joint note the two companies said that they will synergistically use Fastweb's spectrum and Eolo's FWA infrastructures to put available of families and business connections up to 1 gigabyte in areas where the Ftth service, i.e. fiber to the home, is not available.
The agreement provides for thecombined use with millimeter wave frequencies in the 26 GHz band acquired by Fastweb during the 5 2018G auction andEolo's Fwa access infrastructure. Fwa, Fixed Wireless Access, is a data transmission system with a mixed network, made up partly of optical fiber and partly of a network that uses radio frequencies.
Objective: reach 3,5 million more homes
Thanks to a 'wholesale' agreement with Fastweb, Aeolus will be able to access the fiber-based network infrastructure Fastweb allowing it to extend the areas in which it can offer high-performance Ftth-type services to its customers, thus increasing its presence on the national territory. Fastweb instead, access to a strategic FWA network infrastructure is ensured, concentrated in areas where FTTH networks are not available, which will allow it to extend its 'ultra-broadband' coverage to an additional potential of approximately 3,5 million housing unitswhich they will become 5 by 2029.
“The partnership with Eolo allows us to use the spectrum even more efficiently to quickly expand the coverage of the ultra broadband network at our disposal,” commented Walter Renna, CEO of Fastweb.
For Guido Garrone, CEO of Eolo, "the partnership with Fastweb represents further confirmation of the strategic role of the FWA in breaking down the digital divide, as a complementary solution to FTTH where fiber is uneconomical".
