Archivissima with Generali: Trieste between past, future, and virtual reality

On the occasion of Archivissima 2025, the Generali Historical Archive presents “The future where it all began”, a virtual reality experience that allows visitors to explore Trieste in 1831, the year the company was founded. Through an immersive reconstruction of the city, visitors can rediscover iconic sites such as the Grand Canal and Palazzo Carciotti, observing the architecture, commerce, and daily life of the era up close. The initiative, which is part of Generali's strategy to enhance historical memory and cultural innovation, will be accompanied by free guided tours of the city's main neoclassical buildings. The tour will conclude with a special evening opening of Palazzo Berlam, home of the Historical Archives, where visitors can enjoy the virtual experience and admire invaluable historical documents, including the founding social contract of Assicurazioni Generali Austro-Italiche. The project confirms the Archives' commitment to using digital technologies and artificial intelligence to make historical heritage increasingly accessible and engaging.

The archive and its history

The Generali Historical Archives contain over 10 linear kilometers of documents, photographs, posters, objects, and iconographic materials that tell not only the Group's history, but also two centuries of Italian and world history.

Emma Ursich, Head of Corporate Identity for the Generali Group, said: “Generali's Historical Archive is a space for conservation and a laboratory for the future. It is a place of study and sharing that turns the memory of two centuries of European history into a driver of knowledge and innovation. With this new virtual experience, we want to make this heritage accessible to all, transforming memory into a living experience capable of generating new connections. Palazzo Carciotti, with its ongoing transformation and the establishment of the Agorai Innovation Hub, represents precisely in this sense the future where it all began.
