Stock market: Fiat falls, disappointment for sales in Italy

Last month the Lingotto registered 27.790 new cars in Italy, for a decrease of 12,33% on an annual basis, while the market share stopped at 27,19%, down on both the 29,61% of a year ago is compared to 28,12% in October.

Difficult start to the session for the Fiat stock on the Stock Exchange, which after the first trades lost more than one percentage point. The red comes after the release of disappointing sales data. According to the Ministry of Transport, last month the Lingotto registered 27.790 new cars in Italy, for a decrease of 12,33% on an annual basis, while the market share stopped at 27,19%, down both on 29,61 28,12% a year ago is up from XNUMX% in October. 

In the first 11 months of the year, Fiat sold 348.879 cars, 10,45% less than in the same period of 2012, while the market share stood at 28,73%, against 29,61% of the Last year. But the November share – specifies Lingotto – does not show the share “of sales to private individuals (the most profitable channel) which was 23,4%”.

The company adds that over the year the Fiat brand has improved its share, rising to 21,51% from 21,03% in 2012. Furthermore, "once again five Group cars are at the top of the top ten sales: Panda, Punto , Ypsilon, 500L and 500”.

In general, in November the Italian car market suffered the 42nd decline since the end of the last incentives in March 2010, with registrations at 102.201 units, down by 4,54% on an annual basis and at a level only slightly higher compared to November 1977.

The second-hand market also loses momentum, recording a decrease of 7,13% over the year. Among the cars of foreign manufacturers, the most requested in Italy are Volkswagen, with sales up 12% to 8.695 units; followed by Ford (-14%, to 6.704 units) and Opel (-9%, to 5.541 units).

The fall in November brings the market estimates in 2013 "probably in the red by 7,7% on 2012 and by 48,1% on the pre-crisis levels of 2007", affirms the Centro Studio Promotor, adding however that a positive signal could arrive in the coming months. 

In 2014, according to the Association of Foreign Manufacturers in Italy, "under current conditions, the reversal will only be technical and not structural and the market will hardly be able to express more than 1.335.000 registrations with a limited growth close to 3%".
