New taxis, who's seen them? Taxi drivers are striking against the Government but they should thank it for its inaction

The new protest of taxi drivers against i Salvini decrees, deemed too favorable to NCC, is paradoxical to say the least. Reality speaks for itself and citizens know it well: the new white cars promised a year ago by the Government to deal with the taxi emergency are nowhere to be seen. Nine months after the approval of the so-called Asset Decree which was supposed to facilitate the arrival of new taxis in large cities, not a new license was granted. The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, passes the blame for the slowness of Municipality in organizing the tenders for the new licences, but in reality from the first signs of the Asset Decree the municipal administrations of the large cities had warned the minister about the cumbersome nature of the new provision. Regardless, long queues of citizens waiting for a taxi are unfortunately the norm and theAntitrust had to intervene again to denounce the unsustainability of the situation in the cities of cities such as Rome, Milan, Naples, Florence and Palermo where finding a white car is a mirage. Now, especially in Milan and Rome, something is moving and sooner or later the new taxis should arrive. But how much longer will we have to wait so that the search for a taxi doesn't become a Sisyphean task every time? All this is not accidental but is the result of the Government's attention to lobbies and corporations (that of the taxi drivers in the lead) to build what the political scientist Carlo Galli defines as the "State of the masters", a State that will probably bring votes to the prime minister Giorgia Meloni but which has no future because it is very far from responding to the great epochal challenges that await Italy and Europe as Mario Draghi he never tires of remembering.
