Florence, trains are running regularly again after work on the Ponte al Pino: the final phase of the construction work is due to begin at the end of July.

The second and final phase of the intervention is scheduled from 11pm on Sunday 26 July to 23am on Thursday 30 July.

After a few days of changes to traffic and connections rescheduled to allow the construction site to progress, from 4am this morning the trains they returned to circular regularly on the lines Florence Campo di Marte–Florence Rifredi e Florence Campo di Marte–Florence Santa Maria Novella. It is in fact the first phase of the works has been completed di Italian Railway Network (FS Group) for the replacement of the Ponte al Pino railway overpass, one of the most significant infrastructure projects underway at the Florentine railway hub.

This will complete a project considered strategic for the renewal and improvement of railway infrastructure safety.

Florence, Ponte al Pino construction: first phase completed

During the interruption it was the old deck of the Ponte al Pino has been removed, cut into three parts and lifted with a 2.000-ton crane, among the largest used in Europe for this type of work. Demolition of the bridge abutments then began, an essential step before installing the new structure. The work, carried out in a densely populated area, is among the most complex currently underway on the national rail network and involved approximately 70 specialized workers and techniciansDuring the rail stoppage, replacement services, alternative routes and a travel assistance plan were activated, defined in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, City of Florence, the Region Toscana and companies railways.
