The Council of Ministers has given the green light to the bills decree, a provision from approximately 3 billion euros intended for mitigate the impact of high energy prices on families and businesses. “Today the government has allocated 3 billion euros to deal with the high cost of bills. We are talking about approximately 1,6 billion euros for families and 1,4 billion for businesses“, the Prime Minister announced Giorgia Meloni in a video published on social media after the Council of Ministers. The decision follows days of in-depth analysis and evaluations to extend the number of beneficiaries and ensure effective support. The government also approved a Sustainable Nuclear Bill.

Giorgetti: “200 euros for ISEE up to 25 thousand euros”

The Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti he explained the details of the measure, explaining that the extraordinary contribution on the social bonus it has been extended to those who have an ISEE of up to 25.000 euros. “This is concrete aid that will be provided in the next quarter, in the hope that energy prices will continue to fall,” the minister said.

The contribution will be modulated based on income: the groups with ISEE up to 9.530 euros will receive both the current bonus and the new one (about 500 euros), while those with an ISEE between 9.530 and 25.000 euros will receive only the new contribution. It is estimated that at least 8 million families will benefit from the measure.

Bills decree: the measures envisaged

The decree provides resources divided equally between families and businesses to support the cost of bills. For citizens, the extension of the ISEE threshold will guarantee a wider access to benefits, with a tiered mechanism to benefit the weakest groups.

For businesses, 1,4 billion euros will be allocated to support measures: half of the resources will go to energy-intensive companies, the other half to small and medium-sized enterprises. Direct contributions should be around 600 euros for companies with high consumption and 700 euros for SMEs.

The government has decided to limit aid to three months, also in view of the forecasts that indicate a possible drop in gas prices in the coming months. Measures are also planned to reduce the tax burden and improve the transparency of energy offers for consumers.

Possible savings for families

The effects of the new measures will be tangible: yes estimates an average saving of 300 euros per year for families on electricity bills and 200 euros on gas bills. The Gradual Protection Service set up by Arera will accompany vulnerable users in the transition from the protected market to the free one, guaranteeing protection to over 11 million citizens, including seniors over 75, disabled people and recipients of the social bonus.

Yes to sustainable nuclear power

In addition to the bills decree, the Council of Ministers also approved the delegation bill on sustainable nuclear power. “Today the government approved another important measure to guarantee safe, clean and low-cost energy, capable of ensuring energy security and strategic independence for Italy,” explained Prime Minister Meloni.

Il bill, presented by the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, provides for the construction of new generation power plants to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. 20 million euros per year have been allocated for the period 2027-2029 to finance the development of the sector. Taking into account now the development of nuclear power plants, within 12 months of the entry into force of the law, the Energy and Climate Plan will have to be updated with the energy mix that the government intends to carry forward.

Among the novelties, the creation of the Independent Nuclear Energy Authority, which will deal with regulation and certification, and theNational Nuclear Safety Agency, charged with evaluating the infrastructure needed for the country's energy future.
