Sparkle announces the construction of the new Nibble network

Sparkle announces the construction of Nibble, a new photonic backbone that will connect Sicily with the main European Points of Presence (PoP) and datacenters.

"Based on new express fibers - explains the Tim group company - Nibble will provide high-performance, low-latency connectivity with the highest speeds available on the market, with scalable and guaranteed services to meet the growing demand of companies and operators".

"Nibble's photonic layer - underlines Sparkle in a note - will gradually integrate with the current Sparkle networks in the Mediterranean and the Balkans and with BlueMed, the new multifiber submarine cable that will connect Palermo with Genoa up to Milan, creating a single network in pan-Mediterranean fiber optics”.

The first connection, scheduled for summer 2019, will connect Sparkle's Sicily Hub in Palermo with the open data center in Milan Caldera. Construction of Nibble is expected to continue in phases until the end of 2020 when integration with existing networks in the Mediterranean and the Balkans will be completed.

"Sparkle confirms its strong leadership in the European telecommunications market with a solution that guarantees high standards of quality and efficiency," says Mario Di Mauro, CEO of Sparkle. “The Gigabit Society demands fast and sophisticated capacity services, and with the Infinera Instant Network solution we can expand our geographic reach and meet customer needs at record speeds, investing only in the capacity we need to deploy, where and when we need it.”
